As Professor of Materials Engineering and as Director of China Engagement of the International Office at Monash University, Yi-Bing Cheng has made major contributions to Australia-China cooperation in the field of technological science and engineering. Professor Cheng is a world expert in non-oxide ceramics and composites and has made significant contributions in the areas of ceramic processing, microstructure development, phase characterisation, and applications. He is a Chief Investigator of ceramifiable composites for fire-performance cables in the CRC for Polymers.
