Dame Marie Bashir died 20/01/2026
ATSE Honorary Fellow Dame Marie Bashir AD CVO FTSE passed away on 20/1/2026. She was elected in 2006 for her contributions to Australian society as a psychiatrist, medical leader and as Governor of New South Wales.
A powerful advocate for young people, reconciliation, Indigenous health and the LGBT community, her diverse interests and her care for the people of New South Wales made her a central figure in Australian public life for many years.
