Sue Barrell is a world leader in weather and climate observation technologies and a widely respected authority on international climate change monitoring and research. She has been the driving force in the modernisation of Australia?s meteorological observing systems and networks involving automatic weather stations, ocean buoys, advanced Doppler radars and satellite ground stations. She has led the introduction of many new cutting-edge observing technologies. In an international liaison capacity, she has played a pre-eminent role in the planning and implementation of the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS) and contributed to Australia?s leadership status in many aspects of international Earth observation. She is a senior executive at the Bureau of Meteorology.
