Dr. Steve Jefferies AO is Australia's most impactful plant breeder. He personally developed and commercialised wheat varieties that were rapidly adopted by Australian grain growers. In 2002 he founded Australian Grain Technologies P/L and grew it into a $220 million 63 employee successful national company. His wheat varieties totally dominate Australian grain production and out-yield competitor wheat varieties. Thus he has had a massive impact on Australian wheat production, of which 80% is exported, helping to feed the world. Since 2016, as GRDC Managing Director he has revolutionised Australia's $200 million pa grains research.
